Chiefs Report 2013

In 2012 Upper Mountain responded to 1,366 calls.
A breakdown of those calls is as follows:

  • 32 confirmed structure, vehicle, and electrical fires
  • 138 fire alarms
  • 59 motor vehicle accidents
  • 5 brush fires
  • 23 CO alarms or odor of natural gas investigations
  • 71 standby’s for community events
  • 6 fire police
  • 1,032 EMS and ALS services

That’s an average of 3.7 calls a day for the year.

We had 2 members complete firefighter 1 and added 8 EMTs to our roster.  In my first year as chief of the department it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  I believe that was because of our outstanding membership and line officers.  They are a very dedicated group and at times made me feel like I did not even need to be there.  Entering my second year as chief I look forward to continuing to improve on the great history of the Upper Mt. Fire Co.  We start the year out with the addition of a new breathing air compressor and the hopes that we receive our assistance to firefighter grant for new rescue tools.  We also acquired a video laryngoscope which is used for more accurate and easier intubation of patients for our EMS providers.

We continue to look into the future to improve our capabilities in both the fire and EMS fields.  I would like to thank all the members for their hard work throughout the year.  I would also like to thank the line officers for making my job so easy.  Finally I would like to thank our mutual aid companies, Niagara Active, Lewiston #1, Lewiston #2, Sanborn, Ransomville, Youngstown, The Air Base Fire Dept. and Tri-Community.  The aid we share with one another is vital to the success of our companies and the protection of the community we are all here to serve.  And last but not least a very big thank you to my wife for all of her help this year making me a success.  Have a great night and thank you for coming.
